How To Use The Search
The archive is meant to be simple to use, but also has powerful features to
help you find exactly what you're looking for. You can just enter a few
words of what you're looking for or use the more complex search options.
Unlike most search services you're probably used to, complex Boolean searches
can easily be made, something not even possible on Google (Google supports
simple Boolean searches but not complex ones) Also, this archive contains the entire archive of mASF posts which are only
available through this web site, and does not restrain search results for older
uASF articles which Google Groups does (max 1,000 results per search on Google). Comments or suggestions about this searchable
archive can be directed to Formhandle.
The search is case-insensitive (capitals don't matter). There is an implied AND between keywords. Use OR
between keywords if that's what you mean. To get faster results for
searches, try to be more specific (by indicating at least 1 keyword in
the subject and/or by limiting the date range) without going overboard and/or try
combining words that are likely to appear together ("girl and boy" AND toy). Being more specific and using positive and negative Boolean queries, without going
overboard in specificity, will provide you faster, more accurate results.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THREADED RESULTS: Building threaded results is currently database
intensive and takes some time for general/broad searches or large per-page item results.
Sometimes it takes so long, in fact, that your web browser might time out waiting
for the result. If you want to use threaded results, for now (at least until performance
is improved) be very specific about what you're searching for and choose 10
results per page instead of 25 or more. What is meant by specific is try to fill in
all the fields with what you think the article(s) will definitely contain (a keyword in
the subject, a specific author, a limited date range, and maybe a keyword or 2 in the
body).
Query syntax description, and complex Boolean examples
- Complex, nested Boolean searches are supported. You can also nest additional logic in deeper parenthesis if you know how to do that to be more specific in your searches.
e.g.: pickup AND artist NOT (average AND chump) OR (psycho AND basket)
e.g.: pickup AND (guru OR (master AND (artist OR specialist))) - You can also use Boolean
shorthand. + and
& are equivalent to "and",
| is equivalent to "or",
! and
- are equivalent to "not"
e.g.: pickup & artist ! ("mad cow" &
disease) | (ice-cream & cake) - Quote-conversions and
simple Boolean queries (+ -) are also supported. Adding + before a
word you want to match is not necessary, it's optional.
e.g.: +cow -duck -"goose droppings" - The NEAR Boolean operator
is not supported (yet).
- When constructing a simple
query there is an implied "AND" operator between keywords.
e.g.: dog cat is internally converted to dog AND cat
Likewise: +dog -(cat mouse) is internally converted to dog AND NOT (cat AND mouse).
So, for example, that search is requesting all posts with the word "dog" but
none that contain cat and mouse at the same time. If you want to
return results that contain NEITHER cat nor mouse, the search would be +dog -(cat | mouse) which converts internally to dog AND NOT (cat
OR mouse).
Too complicated? Just
type a few keywords relative to what you're looking for and the search will do the rest.
If you want to narrow your search to a particular author, enter their name or e-mail
address in the 'author' field. A partial name is OK if you don't know or can't spell their
full name or don't recall their email address (note that mASF members have email
addresses hidden by default, so that is irrelevant in searches for mASF member
posts). Also, you can just enter the author's name (with no other fields filled in) to
retrieve every post by that author. If you want to filter out one or more specific authors
from your search results, it's as simple as adding a NOT operator before the name. e.g.
NOT failure (or just -failure). For example if the the author's name is
"Badass" and you are getting results which also include "NotBadass" and "BadassCream"
then your modifed search would be
+badass -notbadass -badasscream
Binary attachments within postings are not archived (just the textual portion). Large postings
(greater than 64KB) are now supported, but there is still an upper limit of
about 300KB due to indexing concerns. Most posts are less than 10K, and
very rarely above 64KB.
About The Archive
The Archive is built from the articles submitted to this site's main forum,
mASF (moderated Alt.Seduction.Fast), or very old articles from the public
newsgroup, ASF (Alt.Seduction.Fast).
If you have submitted a post at any time in the past which appears in this
archive, you must understand that this site has NO OBLIGATION to remove such
content. ASF posts were made to a resource available within the public
domain and mASF posts (which are also not hidden from public view) are made with
an agreement as to their use by the operators of this site. That use does
not include an obligation of later removal. You are responsible for any
content you submit to this site and if you wish to maintain anonymity then
follow these guidelines:
- Don't make posts using your real name.
- Don't make posts using a pseudonym which you use in other places that
can be cross-referenced to you here.
- Don't share uniquely identifiable information about yourself within
posts.
- Don't share uniquely identifiable information about people or places you
know which can be correlated back to you.
- Protect your email & account passwords - if someone exploits a resource
of yours, that is not the problem of this site.
- Don't tell people that you post here who you would otherwise NOT want to
know about your posts here - that's common sense, so follow it.
- If you make a post on the live mASF forum and later change your mind and
don't want it to appear in the archives, you have approximately 2 weeks to
edit or remove it using your own account login before it gets archived.
The operators of this site SHALL NO LONGER honor requests for removal of ANY
content. If you are not responsible enough to maintain your own privacy,
it does not become the burden of this site to do so for you after-the-fact.
In fact it is a waste of the time and resources of this site to constantly honor
such requests. If you have a serious issue related to your privacy, here
are some suggestions you may find useful:
- No email addresses are associated with posts and all email addresses
which otherwise may be visible are obfuscated from public view. That
means unless you used your name or included specifically uniquely
identifiable information about yourself, then there is no way to directly
connect you with a particular post.
- Deny, deny, deny.
- Live with the consequences.
- Do not beg, plead or make offers of any kind to this site as a way to
request content be removed. Such requests are no longer being honored AT
ALL. This policy was put in place 3 years ago (2006) and only on occasion
has it not been followed but as of June 1, 2009, 100% of such requests will
be completely ignored.
