Kind of. He also used LOTS of what Idiot-Boy would call "cupid value". Hef
had money, investors, cash to pay for whatnot, working late nights, etc. He
made a magazine that HAPPENED (as with all American rags-to-riches stories)
to EXACTLY exploit an otherwise unforeseen surprise sea-change in its
surrounding culture, then on that strength he built a business empire, then
eventually built himself the mansion and serially married several hot
women, in that order. There's a great deal of "natural alpha" to that story
of business independence, of course ... maybe the women read that off of
him.

But, the early times at the magazine were also, evidently, pretty much
great fun for all involved, so I don't want to discredit Hef's
accomplishments TOO much. It's just, that he was the LEADER of the
magazine, back when he was considered "sexy." We can't all of us be
Guccione / Hefner / Flynt ... in fact, only three of us TOTAL can be those
people. Therefore, their techniques are of limited use to the rest of us.
