There are several reasons the opinions of others matter to me.
Stop telling me I can't finish the sentence.

They matter to me for bad reasons, and I eradicate that thinking
as best I can. That is beside the point of this post.

They also matter to me because they have power over portions of
my life. George W. Bush, for example, is a total stranger to
most of humanity, and yet his opinion matters a great deal to a
large portion of the human population. In like manner, many
other people "with power" tend to "matter" to me.

What you really mean is, that we should work on not caring about
the finicky social conventions of the AFC crowd around us. On
that subject I do agree. But don't tell me I'm not creative
enough to finish half a sentence in my own native tongue. Your
approach is very confrontational, and extremely Narcissistic,
because it plays with the notion of your own "control" of the
whole remainder of a newsgroup. We aren't a monolith. Each of us
has strengths and weaknesses, and you aren't our guru.
