I don't think it is a language barrier.
Rather it's an artifact of modern
(western) culture that values romantic
love over every other interaction
between male and female that ALL
other forms of interaction are
disapproved, either implicitly
or explicitly. There is no socially
acceptable vocabulary for me discuss
what is discussed on ASF with my
male colleagues at work, much less
my mother. All such discussions invariably
end with "Well, if you love her, blah blah
blah..."
