Yeah, I hear you TD. What I've realized is that the timing is very important.
It's not so much IF you verbalize, but more WHEN you verbalize it.

Like for instance, I'll NEVER verbalize to attract a chick, I've done this
before and I've also gotten mixed results. You have to also "read" the chick to
see if she can handle competition, with the club chicks this is usually not a
problem. :) The ONLY time I'll verbalize it is after I've already "hooked" her
and I'm getting resistance. And this is not that often.

And when I do verbalize it, I don't make a big deal out of it. It's one short
sentence and that's it. I let her wonder about the rest.
