This is so true. I know some posts get completely 100% buried and they've got
a great tactic or technique or something decent to say. But they're from
somebody that's a nobody or not a TD or a Mystery, etc. Harmless has even
remarked about this to me saying, "I had a line in there that works awesome and
I've been using every night I've been going out but no one will use it because
they didn't notice it." Meanwhile TD writes "Wear cool clothes and act Normal"
and suddenly there's a rash of posts about "How do I be NORMAL??!!!" I think
the TD post was pretty sublime so I'm not trying to knock it, but you get the
idea.
I'll also see that the opposite is true. Ross will sometimes make a completely
normal post which I don't consider to be critical, extreme, out of line, etc.
and the guy will just get railed even if there's some good info in there.
There was a post he wrote a while back about identifying your weak points
systematically and removing them. Man, everybody went nuts. And his latest
got even more heated because he actually criticized a high status person's
methods. Mystery in particular.
He's developed a negative status here over time so that even a post of quality
will be immediately hated by many people. (I'm starting to realize that I'm
not typing anything that hasn't been said whatsoever. Wow, people build
emotional connections to people/brands/etc. I suggest you quit reading and
find the latest post by TD.)
People who have been burned by SS in a variety of ways won't listen to Ross and
that creates a culture where newbies who don't know what to think first start
adopting the beliefs of the 'In' thing at the moment. That's what makes
innovation so difficult. Pretty amazing to me that the whole direct "You're
beautiful, I like you" game came out since it was in large part in direct
opposition to most ASF thinking (HB's get 100 compliments a day, so don't
compliment them, etc.)
Too bad this is a chatboard and not pick-up research institute performing
experiments created by Cialdini. That would be interesting. ("Oddly, the
woman didn't seem to care that Tom Cruise was supplicating while Pyro's
alphaness didn't really seem to matter whatsoever while Tom was talking. Thus
supplicating is the answer! Another amazing discovery!")
