Hmm. This may well be the best "beginner question" I have heard. Many players
avoid the problem by skipping rapport entirely, jumping straight from
attraction to sexual, but this only works for one-night stands. I think the
solution is to realise that there are several kinds of rapport.

Friendship rapport requires equality, giving and taking in kind, mutual
respect. This is what most guys do when it is time for rapport, and it will
most likely get them to LJBF land. I mean, first they hit on her, and then they
signal that they just want to be friends. They LJBF the chick!

What you should be doing is "my world" rapport, dominance through imagination.
You do not wait for her to share, you take the lead and tell about your
adventures, experiences and dreams. Storytelling, patterning, all of that comes
to play here. You know that you have it right when her part of it consists
mostly of affirming what you tell her, and she is leaning in eagerly to listen.
Pull her into your world, make her feel like a guest there.

I have some doubts about the applicability of certain NLP techniques into PU.
Mirroring is great when you are looking for friendship rapport, but in PU she
can lose interest if you come across as very similar. If you are just like her,
how can you have a new and wondrous world for her to explore? Clones are hardly
exciting. I could go on about this thing, but I'm sure you got the main idea
already. :-)
