P.A.I.R. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: What is P.A.I.R.?
A: It's a system which allows guys to find wingmen in their area to
hook up with. A wingman is a guy you hang out with when you're specifically out to pick up
chicks. If you need more details, look at the rest of the site.
Q: Why should I sign up?
A: Because you need a wingman with a like mind in your area and your
current friends are either too AFC, don't care to follow Fast Seduction 101 guidelines, or
don't care to be your wingman.

Q: Is my information private?
A: The only required information when registering is a username,
password, and an e-mail address. Your password and e-mail address are hidden. However, you
can provide a real (or fake) name to go along with your username. Important: Keep
in mind that P.A.I.R. is a 2-way system and it's important to enter as much information
about your location as possible. That means that just as you're looking for a wingman in your area, another guy could be looking for a wingman in his area. If everyone
expected to be the finder and not the person found (by not entering location information)
then nobody would find a wingman. If you include location information in your profile, the
system will be 3x more useful to you because other guys can find you rather than waiting
to be found by you. Get it?

Q: Then how does someone contact me?
A: The P.A.I.R. system supports a blind-e-mail setup. Unless you
already know a P.A.I.R. user's e-mail address (by them explicitly giving it to you), you
must log into the P.A.I.R. system and send an e-mail to their username while logged in.
That forces all mail intended for P.A.I.R. recipients to go through the web server and
allows it to keep all e-mail addresses hidden. When mail is sent, it is delivered by the
system to the intended recipient's e-mail address. The sender's address is not included
with the message and the reply-to address is set to the P.A.I.R. system's administrator
e-mail. That keeps the sender's address private. In case the system is abused in any way,
logs are kept and, with the use of mail headers associated with the deliveries, abusive
users can be traced, deleted, and reported to their ISP.

Q: I signed up but never got an authorization e-mail.
A: It probably means that your mail provider stinks. Since creating
the P.A.I.R. system in 1999, I've gradually improved the reliability of mail delivery when
new accounts are created to the point of near-100% completed deliveries. As long as the
e-mail address provided is valid, it will get delivered to you unless there is a network
problem or your mail provider's system is doing something wrong. I've noticed that after
all this time, the primary mail hosts that tend to still have problems are Hotmail and
Yahoo. About 1 out of 5 Hotmail users and 1 out of 10 Yahoo users never receive their mail
from the P.A.I.R. system. I've checked the mail logs extensively and found that pretty
much 100% of those "missing" e-mails were properly and completely delivered to
the host mail system. Once it reaches the host system, it is the responsibility of that
system to deliver the mail to you. Besides occasional dropped e-mails, Hotmail and Yahoo
are notorious for occasionally spooling mail up to 48 hours before final delivery into
user mailboxes. All mail originating from my system is spooled for delivery within seconds
and initial attempts to deliver to host systems happens in less than 1 minute. If
there is a problem delivering, it will try again once per minute for the next hour. If it
still has a problem delivering, it will try on a regular interval to deliver mail over the
course of the next 5 days. If after 5 days mail can't be delivered, a bounce message is
sent to the P.A.I.R. administrator e-mail address.
If you signed up and are having problems receiving the authorization e-mail, and have
given your mail host enough time to deliver it to you (48 hours) then contact me and I'll regenerate the
authorization e-mail for you and send it to you manually through another network.

Q: Why do you require a valid e-mail address and an authorization
step?
A: A valid e-mail address is required in order to track abuse of the
system. The authorization step guarantees that any registrant can be traced back to the
time of their sign-up and the originating ISP in case an abuse report has to be filed.
Abuse can come in many forms but primarily involve: excessive harassment of other members,
potential spamming of other member accounts, or use of the system for disruptive or
illegal activity. Once signed up, users can update their e-mail address but the original
one is archived for potential future abuses. Keep in mind, though, that no other P.A.I.R.
members can contact you unless the e-mail address in your profile is valid.

Q: I think I entered my e-mail address wrong during sign up.
A: Wait a couple of days for mail to get delivered to you. If it never
gets to you, then chances are you mis-typed your address. If that's the case, then try
creating a new account with a different username and make sure you type your e-mail
address properly. If mail still doesn't get delivered to you after a couple more days,
then contact me and I'll regenerate the
authorization e-mail for you and send it to you manually through another network.

Q: Can I change my password?
A: Yes. Once you have authorized your account, you can update any
details of your account when you are logged in.

Q: How does the search work?
A: It can work 2 ways. Either you enter the general or exact area you
are trying to find a wingman and use additional filters for age, skill level, etc. or you
can base the search on your location and filter further by other factors. The first method
does not depend on any location information in your profile. However, the second
information requires at least general information as to your location. That's because in
that method your location becomes the center point and results are returned for wingmen
that match location based on a maximum radius (in kilometers or miles) from you. In
either case, the only results returned are of wingmen who have entered at least general
information about their location. Logically, that means if you want to show up in other
people's searches, you must provide at least general location information in your profile.
The more specific and detailed you are about your location, the more likely you will show
up in other wingmen's searches and the better results you will see for your own searches.
Location searches are based on locale or longitude/latitude or both. Whenever location
information is provided or updated (sign-up or profile updates), the P.A.I.R. system uses
a national and international longitude/latitude database and inserts that into the member
account record. Radius searches use this information in order to accurately find
other members who's longitude/latitude are within the distance radius provided. The system
is accurate to within 5-10 miles. Longitude/latitude (when available) is also used to tell
each member how far away they are from another member - you'll see this while looking
through the profiles of other members.

Q: I sent a message to someone but they didn't respond.
A: Give them a week or two. Then try again. If they don't respond it's
either because they don't care to, they are too busy, or they no longer are looking for a
wingman but haven't disabled their account. Think of them like a chick who's number you
got but won't answer any voicemail you leave. Is it worth trying to figure out WHY she
won't respond? NEXT.

Q: Someone isn't responding to me, can I have their e-mail
address?
A: Absolutely not.
Q: I received a message from someone on the P.A.I.R. system. How
do I reply to it?
A: Please read the message entirely. All the information you need to
know about responding to the person is in the top section.

Q: I received a message from the P.A.I.R. system but I never
signed up for P.A.I.R..
A: Of course you did. You wouldn't have received it unless you signed
up to the system. If you're absolutely CERTAIN that you never signed up for P.A.I.R., forward the mail headers of the sent
message and I will investigate.

Q: Someone is on the P.A.I.R. system is sending me annoying
e-mails.
A: Forward the mail headers of
the sent message and I will investigate.
Q: Do you use the e-mail addresses in P.A.I.R. for spam?
A: Absolutely not. At the most, you might get a broadcast mail
regarding the system or web site or a newsletter if you've chosen to receive it (but I
haven't set up a newsletter yet).
